The Datanet 355 was introduced at the same time as the GE-655 (that was renamed later Honeywell H-6000).
It used the same integrated circuit technology as GE-655.
Its processor had a 18-bits wide architecture.
The software was initially GERTS-355, based on the design and functions of Datanet-30.
A new version of software called NPS-355 was introduced in the early 1970s.
A stand alone version named RNP-355 (remote network processor) was used as a terminal concentrator on large Level-66 networks.
The Datanet-355 was progressively replaced by the Level-6 common front-end processor as part of DSA Honeywell (and CII-HB) Distributed System Architecture
