INTRODUCTION

Level 64-DPS was only a minor
developement of original Level 64. It was known internally as project P7 step3
that essntially introduced cost-cutting measures in the component areas and as the
non-implementation of a few unused functions. 64-DPS was introduced in 1978 in lowering significantly the purchase price to answer IBM's introduction of the 43x1 series. DPS suffix for Distributed Processing System was introduced with the initial disclosure of Honeywell (and CII-HB) Distributed System Architecture. It passes the marketing message is not only the mainframe for a mium-sized user but also the departmental system of large users. 64-DPS models were received with a success overwhelming maufacturing expectations, thanks in particular to multiple orders from French and export administrations. |
